The 5 Things That You Should Know About Your Plumbing System

Most of the time we tend to take our plumbing system for granted because when it works, there are no worries. This allows water to flow freely and quickly, which without the pipes, the water would drain very s

Top Tips To Help Stop Your Shower Dripping

Do you ever find that your shower keeps dripping, even when switched off? Annoying isn’t it! We are regularly called out by customers who face this problem and want to know why it happens. One of the most common causes of this problem relates to showers which are attached to bath taps. With a diverter valve you lift and press down to send the water either to the showers or to the taps. Despite the fact that your bath taps may be fine, your shower may keep on dripping but how can this happen? What is the Cause? In many cases, it will be as simple as an air lock causing water to become trapped in the head of the shower. When the water flow to the shower is cut, it will run back down the shower hose creating an airlock in the head of the shower. Because of this, not all water will run be able to run back down the pipe and excess water will remain trapped in the head of the show. This will then continue to drip from the head, causing a great deal of annoyance to anyone near the shower

Worried About Burst Pipes This Winter?

Worried About Burst Pipes This Winter? Burst pipes are at the heart of many plumbing issues and despite the fact that many water pipes are made from copper, a very durable material, they are still prone to springing a leak. How does this happen though? Pipes designed solely for the purpose of allowing water to pass through, should surely be able to withstand almost anything. The truth is though that depending on the type of water running through the pipe, leaks can sometimes begin to appear after even a couple years of use. What Are The Main Causes? Although there can be a variety of different causes, by far the main causes of a burst pipes related to internal corrosion and high water pressure. Internal corrosion of a water pipe results in the gradual destruction of the pipe’s surface by a chemical reaction caused by the acidity of the water passing through it. Water that’s very acidic will cause corrosion, however alkaline water will cause limescale build up. A limescale build up

If you are in the house when the leak occurs, and you notice it quickly, you can usually stop the worst of the damage. The Crucial First Step Take a moment, right now, to find out where your stopcock is located and make sure that you know how to operate it, and that it is not stuck. This will ensure that should a leak occur you will be able to respond quickly and stop the water from damaging your home. If the leak is severe enough that it starts dripping through the ceiling or down the walls, or it is in danger of running close to an electrical circuit, turn off the gas and the electricity supply as well to prevent electrical damage or an explosion. This is not usually necessary for a small drip, especially if you are able to catch the drips in a bucket.
