3 Top Reasons To Leave Plumbing To The Pros

It can be so tempting to have a go at DIY tasks yourself rather than spend the money to bring an expert in. However, in the case of plumbing, this nearly always ends in disaster. There are a number of circumstances where you should turn to your local plumbing experts (J & P!!) rather than attempt to correct the problem yourself. Sadly, we are frequently called out to emergency plumbing jobs where a DIY repair or an installation has gone wrong, simply because the person attempting the job did not have either the skills, the tools or both to complete the job properly. Below we have identified 3 excellent reasons why you should leave plumbing to the pros. 1.  Getting To The Root of the Problem Can Be Difficult Finding out where a leaking pipe is dropping water onto your floor is the easy part. However, that is the easy part and finding the root cause of the problem can often be far more difficult. Turning to your reputable local London plumber will ensure that the problem is approache

Would You Know if Your Drains Were Blocked

Blocked drains can be a real pain at any time. Often caused by too many foreign objects being flushed away down the down the toilet or washed down the sink, a build up will begin to block pipes and drains leading to potentially serious future problems. It’s important to know what are the actual signs of your drains being blocked are though and as such we have created this article to give you a little help. Does Your Toilet Flush Properly? The most common sign of blocked drains in London is an inability to flush the toilet properly. If you attempt to flush your toilet, only to find that the bowl is filling up with water rather than draining away, there is every chance that there is a blockage somewhere in the system. In complete contrast to this, if the water does not fill up to its regular point, this can also be an indication that your pipe might be blocked. Is Water Coming Back Through The Plug Hole? A Quick and Simple Guide To Changing a Plug

One of the most common electrical tasks we face as householders is the need to wire a plug. However a surprising number of people are unaware of exactly how to do this and we felt as though it would be helpful to draw up a quick and simple guide designed to help our followers to change a plug should the need arise. Before starting, make sure that you have a medium sized flat head screwdriver to hand. Step 1: Open up the plug Loosen and remove the screw in the centre of the underside of the plug. Once this has been done, remove the plug s top cover but take care none of the pins or the fuse fall out. Some plugs also have two smaller screws that hold a clamp across the wire. This stops the cord being pulled out of the plug. If this is the case, take some time to loosen these particular screws and then loosen the brass screws that hold each wire into the pin. (There will be either two or three wires to loosen.) Step 2: Prepare the wires Place the wire inside the plug and mark how long it

CCTV Drain Surveys – What Are They?

Technology is evolving all of the time and it is absolutely no different in the plumbing industry. Whereas a few years ago people would have associated CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) with being a crime prevention device, CCTV now plays a pivotal role in helping to get to the bottom of drainage issues. Why Would I Need A CCTV Drain Survey? CCTV (closed circuit television) is a very useful tool for the drainage engineer as most drains are either concealed within the building or underground. There needs to be a way of diagnosing problems and finding out the condition of drain system components; the most cost effective and efficient way of doing this is via a CCTV survey. A small CCTV camera is mounted on the end of a rubber hose and pushed into the drainage system transmitting a picture of the inside of the drainage pipe-work and sewers. This film can be viewed real time on a screen by the operator; the film is also recorded for re-inspection at a future date. There are many reasons wh

Can You Smell Something Fishy?

A weird fishy type smell coming from a switch and/or wall socket is another unpleasant but common #electrical problem. This is often the result caused when an electrical device’s connection to the circuit is damaged, causing the electricity to jump through the air to complete the circuit. When this happens it can pass through anything that it encounters along the way and could potentially cause a fire if left unchecked.
